Summer is right around the corner which means one thing: summer cleaning! With the harsh winter and rainy spring weather (though it was quite a warm spring this year in Ontario), the exterior and interior of your home may need some maintenance. By utilizing these tips, you can save money and time on your home and any future maintenance issues that may arise. If you didn’t get a chance to do some spring cleaning, here are some tips as we move forward into the new season:
Dust up vents: If you, your family, or housemates are victims of seasonal allergies, brushing up the vents can prevent dust or pollen from blowing around the home.
Replace your air conditioner’s filter: Along with dusting up your vents, replace the filter to prevent dust, pollen, or even dirt that gets trapped in air ducts.
Inspect your roof: Contact a roofer if you spot any misalignments, cracks, or missing shingles.
Look over your gutters: After a rainy spring, ensure your gutters are clean and the downspouts are pointing away from your home, especially when summer thunderstorms hit
Fix your sprinklers: Check for any broken heads or pipes that were caused by the winter weather.
Clean up your patio or deck: If mold, dirt, or mildew formed from the winter or spring, use a deck brush, power washer, or any deck-cleaning solution.
Don’t let humidity get in the way: Certain appliances, such as washing machines, should be air-dried (ie. leave door open to dry) to prevent the humidity from causing mold and mildew.
Wash your windows: Along with the theme of humidity encouraging mold growth, ensure you clean your windows and window screens.
Check for any cracks in the floors: Use a pest control indoors and outdoors to prevent ants and other bugs that may seep through the cracks.
Rinse down your outdoor furniture: Impress your guests with a quick rinse-through of any benches or tables that were tarnished by the winter and spring weather!
